Nightscapes and Reportage Photography in the Vercors Grenoble Workshops

Un stage, deux ateliers. En collaboration avec Suzanne Porter, photojournaliste primée et fondatrice de clik-trip, ainsi que Serge Riou, spécialiste de la photographie de paysage nocturne.
Pendant deux jours et deux nuits, Suzanne et Serge vous enseigneront les fondamentaux techniques pour que vous puissiez raconter une histoire au travers de photos et réaliser de superbes photographies de ciels étoilés.

Au programme :

Vendredi après-midi, nous nous retrouverons au gîte, à moins d'une heure de Grenoble.
Pour ceux qui arrivent tôt et qui le souhaitent, nous proposerons une promenade, avec le matériel photo, dans les environs du gîte.

Après l'arrivée et l'installation de tous les invités, nous ferons un tour de table pour tous nous présenter et préciser vos attentes sur ces trois jours de stage.

Serge abordera la planification de la prise de vue nocturne avec ses contraintes spécifiques et les aides logicielles pour passer de l'idée à la photo. Il parlera également de l'équipement : les différents appareils photo, les objectifs, le trépied, la télécommande... etc. Il passera aussi en revue ce qu'il faut apporter en plus du matériel photo, la configuration de l'appareil pour la prise de vue, la prise de vue à proprement parlé (la mise au point de nuit, la gestion de la lumière, l'utilisation des filtres, l'hyperfocale, la règle des 500). La photographie panoramique est l'une de ses spécialités...

Après un dîner copieux, l'atelier sur les paysages nocturnes avec Serge commencera. La nuit noire commence vers 22h30 et dure jusqu'à 4h30, ce qui nous laisse un temps confortable pour expérimenter la prise de vue nocturne. Les dates du séjour sont parfaites pour observer la voie lactée.

Samedi matin, après le petit-déjeuner, Suzanne vous emmènera dans une ferme et pour rencontrer des artisans locaux pour un reportage photographique. L'atelier de Suzanne porte sur la façon d’approcher les gens et l'utilisation de la lumière naturelle pour capturer les moments essentiels et raconter une histoire.

Elle vous proposera aussi un défi photographique !

Vous aurez le temps de vous reposer ou de travailler sur vos photos avant le dîner.

Pour ceux qui le souhaitent, il y a une deuxième nuit de photographie nocturne avec Serge.

Dimanche, après quelques heures de sommeil, vous aurez à nouveau l'occasion de rejoindre Suzanne pour une promenade dans les environs. Sinon, vous pourrez vous réveiller plus tardivement et prendre un petit-déjeuner tranquille. Serge vous apprendra ensuite à traiter vos images de vos sessions nocturnes et Suzanne animera un court atelier sur la narration visuelle et la meilleure façon de sélectionner vos photos (éditing).

Après le déjeuner, vous aurez du temps libre pour sélectionner et travailler vos plus belles images en vue d'une présentation et d'une révision à la fin du stage.

Nous vous fournirons un résumé pdf des différents points discutés pendant le week-end et nous resterons disponibles après le stage pour répondre à vos questions.

Le coût de cet atelier comprend l'hébergement sur la base d'une chambre à deux lits et tous les repas, c'est-à-dire le petit-déjeuner et le dîner, ainsi qu'un déjeuner sous forme de pique-nique.

Les boissons, les souvenirs et les pourboires sont à votre charge.

Nous devrions pouvoir nous rendre partout à pied depuis le gîte, mais si nous devons nous éloigner, il se peut que vous deviez utiliser votre voiture.

Le stage ne nécessite cependant pas d’avoir une condition physique particulière, si ce n'est d'être capable de rester debout de longues heures et de se coucher tard !

Malgré diverses tentatives de danses de la pluie, d'offrandes sacrificielles et autres immolations, nous devons admettre que notre contrôle de la météo n'est pas très fiable... Par conséquent, nous ne pouvons pas être tenus responsables du mauvais temps le jour J.
Si le temps ne permet pas la réalisation du stage, nous adapterons le programme et ferons les ateliers à l'intérieur.
De même, nous ne pouvons être tenus responsables d’éventuels désagréments qui pourraient survenir indépendamment de notre volonté (blessure, vol ou accident) au cours du stage.

A collaborative workshop with award winning photojournalist and clik-trip founder, Suzanne Porter and nightscape photography specialist, Serge Riou.

Over two days and two nights, Suzanne and Serge teach you the essentials of how to source and tell a story with photos and the techniques in night photography to allow you to create your own celestial pictures and get great photographs of starry skies.

On the programme :
Friday afternoon, we meet at the Gite, approximately one hour from Grenoble.
For those who arrive early, we will have a walk with our cameras around the local area.
After all the guests have arrived and settled in, we will introduce ourselves and ask everyone to specify their expectations. Serge will go through the planning of the night shooting with its specific constraints and the software aids to go from the idea to the photo. He will also discuss the equipment: the different cameras, the lenses, the tripod, the remote control... etc. He will also talk about what you need to bring besides the photo equipment, the configuration of the camera for the shooting, shooting: focusing at night, light management, use of filters, hyperfocal length, 500 rule. Panoramic photography is one of his specialties... A hearty dinner and the night landscapes workshop with Serge will begin. The dark night starts around 10:30 pm and lasts until 4:30 am, which gives us a comfortable amount of time to experiment with the shooting. We have chosen the dates as the best to view the Milky Way. However, if necessary, we will take the cars to drive to a location nearby.

Saturday
A leisurely breakfast before Suzanne's workshop on how to tell a story with photos. After lunch, Suzanne will lead the group to visit the local farm and artisans at work for some reportage photography. Suzanne's workshop is about approaching people and using natural light to capture moments and to tell a story. She will give you a photographic challenge!

There will be time to rest or work on your photos before dinner.

For those that would like, there is a second night of night-scape photography with Serge.

On Sunday, after a few hours of sleep, there will be another opportunity to join Suzanne on a walk around the local area. Otherwise you can wake up slowly for breakfast, after which Serge will teach you how to process your images form the night time shoot.

After lunch you will have free time to select and work on your finest photos for an end of workshop projection presentation and review.

We will provide a pdf summary of the different points discussed during the workshop and we will be available after the workshop to answer your questions.

The cost of this workshop includes accommodation based on twin sharing and all meals ie breakfast and dinner plus a picnic lunch. You will be expected to pay for your drinks, souvenirs and tips. Sheets and towels are also included in the price so you do not need to bring those. We should be able to walk everywhere from the gite, however if we do need to move further away, you may be required to use your car.

In spite of various attempts at rain dances, sacrificial offerings and other immolations, we have to admit that our control of the weather is not very reliable... As a result, we cannot be held responsible for bad weather on the day. If the weather does not permit the realizsation of the course, we will adapt the programme and do workshops inside.
In the same way we cannot be held responsible for any eventuality beyond our control (injury, theft or accident) that could occur during the course of the workshop and it is your responsibility to be fully insured...

The course does not require any particular physical conditions, except for being able to stay up for long hours and going to bed late!
