SydneyAbout your local photographer
I’m a photographer who specialises in flora, fauna and macrophotography. While photographing wildlife is what I truly love, over the last 20 years my photography career has taken me on a varied and interesting journey.
After gaining my degree in art, design and media at Portsmouth University in the UK, I worked as a cruise ship photographer. This fast-paced work honed my skills in travel, portrait and social photography.
I then left the life at sea and moved to London where I worked at a respected studio that hired its services to the top magazines and photographers.
In 2002 I moved to Sydney, Australia and fell in love with the nature here. I was in awe of the parrots. (I still am!) And I am in constant admiration of the colourful native trees and flowers.
In Australia I trained as a wildlife rescuer and carer and now specialise in bird rehabilitation.
I now combine my interests in wildlife and photography by creating projects and exhibitions where I can convey a conservation message. And I support wildlife organisations by donating prints or a percentage of my sales.
My photographic techniques align with my respect for nature. I do not have a studio and do not use flash. Instead I rely on natural light. So I’ve spent many hours in aviaries to get the shot that I like.
I use a macro lens, which requires me to get quite close to the bird. I also use a very shallow depth of field. So the focus has to be spot on. This technique requires a lot of patience, as birds don’t stay still. But the results are worth it.
I love to share my expertise by teaching macrophotography and photography for beginners.
Meanwhile at home, I share my space with two cockatoos, two galahs, princess & regent parrot, all of whom are rehomed.
